Pulaski County Special School District teacher and staff support unions are vowing to fight for their contracts in court.

The unions held an emergency meeting Monday after the Education Commissioner moved to de-certify them Friday.

After the meeting union leaders made it clear they will not strike but they will fight for what they consider fair treatment and that's having their contracts honored through 2015.

PACT President Marty Nix said, "It's very hard for us to take cuts and shoulder the biggest part of the district's cuts when we're sitting across from the superintendent who makes $260,000."

As of Friday, PCSSD is making cuts, $4 million worth, without considering the demands of the teacher and support staff unions. Standing strong and together, teachers and staff left the meeting in high spirits, voting unanimously to move forward with legal action.

"We all know our contracts are binding, whether or not we live in a right to work state, a contract is still a contract. It's still a binding agreement," said Nix.

"We're going to let the court decide who is right and who is wrong," said PASS President Emry Chesterfield.

Both say, the idea of going on strike, struck out.

"There won't be a strike especially in the near future. These students will finish out on a good note," said Nix.
