ASP Wants Answers From Petrino's Sideline Security Guard

Captain Lance King is literally Bob Petrino's right hand man. The state trooper is glued to the Arkansas football coach every time he takes the field.

And on Sunday, King was there.

Arkansas State Police Spokesperson Bill Sadler says King received a call from Petrino's cell phone after the crash. King was only a mile away, the closest officer available, and took the coach to the hospital.

Many have questioned King's role in the investigation, but Sadler is adamant that the captain acted in accordance to state police standards.

State police leadership wanted to know more Friday, sending a commander to King's troop in Springdale to get some answers. Later that afternoon, ASP released a statement, saying King was asked to give a more detailed statement about the circumstances surrounding Petrino's crash.

State police hopes to make King's summary available early next week.

There are also other issues that may require attention. Crash statements given by Petrino and passenger Jessica Dorrell are dated Sunday, but both were interviewed Tuesday. In fact, the time and date given for Dorrell's statement is April 1, at 1:10 p.m.- before the crash even occurred.

And in his statement, Petrino says he lost control of his motorcycle when he couldn't make a turn, but the report says the road is straight.
