In a new ranking of Americas top high schools, Mills University Studies High is 59 out of one thousand. The ranking rests on Advanced Placement courses. To get the listing, Newsweek divides the number of A-P exams taken by the number of a schools graduating seniors. Mills boasts 22 different A-P course offerings, but folks there dont believe their success is in the numbers. Teachers and administrators believe its all about mindset. While some schools pad the enrollment of such classes with only gifted or already high-achieving students....at Mills any student who wants to enroll can participate. Hard work is required. Mills student body is mostly minority and 50 percent is listed as "in poverty" by the federal government. Those are populations usually regarded as hard to teach. Administrators at Mills say every student can achieve.
