The former head of education in
Arkansas says the state needs to do a better job of recruiting top
teachers to the states neediest schools. Ray Simon now serves as
an assistant secretary in the US. Department of Education. He
spoke yesterday to the Arkansas boards of education, higher
education and workforce education. Simon told the group that
bringing top teachers to the impoverished Arkansas Delta should be
a priority.
The federal No Child Left Behind Act mandates that teachers of
core academic subjects be highly qualified by the end of the
2005-2006 school year.
