Elaine Schools Do Away With School Uniforms

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The school board in Elaine has voted to eliminate school uniforms for the upcoming school year citing inconsistent enforcement. Board members promised that they would reconsider them next year. The Phillips County district had mandated uniforms for the last two years. Board member Norman McCray said that in order for the policy to be successful parents had to support it. He said that he has talked to several parents and students who dont want uniforms. McCray said that uniforms save money and the district needs to communicate that message to the parents. The Elaine dress code had students wear blue and white khaki pants, collar shirts, short pants and cargo pants. The board said that it would send out a letter to let parents know about the discontinued uniform policy.
