Special Session on Education Enters Week 2

With one week behind them, lawmakers are facing a mountain of bills and precious little agreement about what to do with public schools. The January first deadline the supreme court set for a fix to be in place, looms.
Today the senate education committee passed the governors preferred form of reform with one only very loud voice in dissent. Senator Jimmy Jeffress criticized the governor and the bills sponsor, Senator Argue, for pushing consolidation based on a dwindling number. He says starting out stressing a 1500-student district size as necessary and now advocating a 500-student standard shows a willingness to mislead the public. Argue says it just shows a willingness to compromise.
