Interim Director Named For Department Of Education

Tom Courtway, a lawyer who has served in the
Legislature, is to take the helm of the Arkansas Education
Department.
Current department director Ray Simon is wrapping up his tenure
so he can take a federal education post in Washington DC,
Courtway takes over as interim director as the Legislature is
preparing for a December eighth special session on education
reform.
Courtway was chosen by the Education Board yesterday. The panel
met in closed session for 30 minutes and then voted in open session
to hire Courtway.
Board members said Courtways experience in the Legislature will
be an asset as education changes occur.
