Most teachers say visual aides help students learn better. The governors hoping they might help in the school reform debate. Today he unveiled a series of maps which show how close Arkansas high schools are to one another. Small high schools have been under the spotlight as the state tries to comply with supreme court rules to equalize public schooling. The governor has said if such schools cant provide a rich curriculum, they should close or partner with a place that can. According to Mike Huckabees research, 90 percent of the states schools are within 15 driving miles of each other. The governor says that proves there would be no 4-hour bus rides if schools consoldiate. He also says that short distance proves, theres no reason why districts cant create partnerships to improve classroom offerings.
