Every day at Booker Arts Magnet School in Little Rock, students spend half their time learning music, dance or drawing. The College Entrance Exam Board says even if those elementary kids never took another arts class, that background could help them get into the college of their choice. S-A-T results from 2002 show that test- takers who studied drama scored 66 points higher on the verbal section than those with no arts coursework. The art students scored 28 points higher in math. Experts say the higher- level thinking the arts think, helps in any other activity. Even coursework in art history and photography helped improve scores.
