Mary Hardison was born on September 1, 1910 in Arizona. The territory, not the state. She has two children, 13 grandkids, 35 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and just about all of them were on hand to see her accomplish this incredible feat.
"They held up the words 'happy birthday,' and the letters were large so I could see it from up in the air."
She had pretty simple reasons for wanting to accomplish this goal -- and they had nothing to do with getting a world record.
"My son had gone and I'll be darned if I was going to let him outdo me," Hardison said.
Even at 101, she has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
"You're as old as you feel. If you want to feel that you're old and decrepit, go ahead. But if you want to enjoy it, get up and do things."
Mary says she's always ready for new challenges. For her 90th birthday, she rode all of the rides at Disneyland.
