Lady Back Golfers Lead After Round Two

FAYETTEVILLE - University of Arkansas senior Amanda McCurdy and sophomore Stacy Lewis paced the ninth-ranked Lady Razorbacks to the lead after second round action at the Texas A&M "Mo" Morial in College Station, Texas, Saturday. Arkansas shot the days best round counting 301 as they leap-frogged No. 20 and host Texas A&M for the lead. Lewis paced Arkansas with an even par 72 while McCurdy was one-over at 73. The duo are tied for fourth overall with 147s in the 16-team field. "We played a little better today, especially Amanda and Stacy," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "We didnt finish quite as strong as I would have liked. Both of them bogeyed their last hole. We set a goal to play well enough today to put ourselves in a position to win the golf tournament and we did that. I think we can play even better tomorrow." Senior Lindsey Hinshaw bettered her first round score and is tied for 13th overall at 155 with rounds of 78-77 while sophomore Ashley Medders is tied for 28th with a 159 (80-79). Senior Courtney Mahon is tied for 30th after two rounds with a 160 (80-70) while freshman Lucy Nunn, playing as an individual, is tied for 56th at 165 (84-81). Arkansas leads the field after trailing the host Aggies by one stroke after the first round. Arkansas has a two-stroke lead with a 608 (307-301) just ahead of the Aggies with 610 (306-304). The LadyBacks and Aggies far out paced the field in the second round opening an 18-stroke lead between first-place Arkansas and third-place Southern Methodist. The Mustangs, ranked No. 27 this week, are third with a 626 (317-309), followed by No. 45 TCU at 627 and No. 74 Oklahoma with a 628 in the top five spots. No. 39 Tulsa is sixth with 629 followed by No. 26 Baylor with 630, No. 68 Kent State is eighth with a 635, No. 34 Missouri is ninth with 639 and No. 68 Kansas rounds out the top 10 with a 649. Arkansas and the rest of the field conclude play Sunday at the Texas A&M "Mo" Morial. The Lady Razorbacks get a taste of Southeastern Conference action at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia March 24-26. It is the final regular season event prior to the SEC Championship in Nashville, Tenn., April 14-16.
