SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK JAY CUTLER Quarterback VANDERBILT 6-4 • 228 • Senior Santa Claus, Ind. (Heritage Hills HS) • In his 30th career start, Cutler guided the Commodores to their second straight come-from-behind victory, a 28-24 win at Arkansas. Trailing by 11 points entering the final quarter, Cutler directed TD drives of 70 and 76 yards, the last coming with 00:26 left in the game. • In the decisive fourth quarter, Cutler completed 14-of-21 passes for 178 yards and a pair of TDs. He finished the game completing 23-of-45 passes for 278 yards with two TDs and one INT. He also rushed for a score. • Cutler leads the SEC in total offense and is tied for the school record with 41 career TD passes. • The Commodores are 2-0 for the first time since 1988. SEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEE WILL HERRING Free Safety AUBURN 6-3 • 220 • Junior Opelika, Ala. (HS) • Herring tallied five solo tackles, including one quarterback sack and returned a fumble seven yards for a touchdown in Auburns 28-0 win over Mississippi State. • The TD was the first of his career and gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead midway through the third quarter. • Herrings TD was the first by an Auburn defensive player since Carlos Rogers returned an interception for a score last year against Louisiana Tech. • Auburns defense held the Bulldogs to just 207 total yards. • Auburn has a league-high six shutouts since 2000. SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK TYRONE PROTHRO Split End ALABAMA 5-8 • 178 • Junior Heflin, Ala. (Cleburne County) • Prothro tallied 279 all-purpose yards in Alabamas 30-21 victory against Southern Miss. • He finished the game with 97 kickoff return yards, including a 66-yarder, 34 punt return yards, 14 rushing yards and caught seven passes for 134 yards. • His 279 all-purpose yards rank sixth all-time in Crimson Tide history. • Prothros acrobatic catch on a 42-yard pass late in the second quarter set up a TD before the half. • Prothro leads the SEC in all-purpose yards, averaging 195.0 yards per game. SEC OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK DENNIS ROLAND Offensive Tackle GEORGIA 6-9 • 309 • Senior Boliver, Mo. (HS) • Roland graded out at 95 percent and had two "dominator" blocks in Georgias 17-15 win over South Carolina. • Roland was part of an offensive line that enabled Georgia to rush for 238 yards as a team, including a career-best 144 yards by TB Thomas Brown. • Though the seasons first two games, Roland has helped Georgia runners average 5.1 yards per carry. In addition, the Bulldog offensive line has allowed just one sack in 50 pass attempts. SEC DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK CLAUDE WROTEN Defensive Tackle LSU 6-3 • 290 • Senior Bastrop, La. (HS/Miss. Delta CC) • Registered three tackles, two for losses, had a pass deflection and blocked a field goal attempt in LSUs 35-31 win at Arizona State. • His blocked field goal was picked up by Mario Stevenson and returned 55 yards for a TD, pulling the Tigers to within three, 17-14, in the fourth quarter. • Arizona State rushed for 99 yards on 25 carries. SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK CARLOS THOMAS Wide Receiver/Cornerback SOUTH CAROLINA 6-1 • 171 College Park, Ga. (Banneker HS) • Thomas played both sides of the ball in South Carolinas 17-15 loss at Georgia. • He was credited with a four-yard run, a five-yard pass reception and intercepted a pass in the end zone before halftime, preserving a 9-7 Gamecock lead. • Thomas is a true freshman who was a standout on offense and defense at Banneker HS in College Park, Ga.
