Arkansas Prepares for Vanderbilt

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UA Sports Information) - The Razorbacks took in a long two-hour practice in full pads on Tuesday afternoon as they prepared to open Southeastern Conference play against Vanderbilt on Sept. 10. Arkansas has focused much of its attention to Commodore quarterback Jay Cutler. "We had another good day of preparation," Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. "Were trying to work on a lot of different sets that Vanderbilt has. The best thing they have is a tremendous signal caller that has experience, mobility, can run the option and throw the ball. It is probably one of the strongest arms well face all year long, thats including (Matt) Leinart. This guy can really throw the football. Hes very talented." Vanderbilt is coming off a road victory over Wake Forrest and has increased confidence as they travel to Fayetteville for the first time. As Nutt anticipates this league match-up he emphasized the importance the fans play during a home game. "They have a lot of confidence going right now with the win they had on the road," Nutt said. "This is going to be a tremendous challenge for us. "Besides great preparation this week, we really need the fans to make this the most hostile environment come Saturday at 6 oclock," Nutt said. "When Jay Cutler comes to that line of scrimmage we need every fan to play every play with us. We truly need them to be the 12th man." Arkansas has an exceptional running game and is currently leading the nation in rushing yards. The Hogs are expecting to see the blitz from Vanderbilt and are working on utilizing their passing game more in order to have a better-balanced offensive attack. "We have to continue to keep blocking and executing," Nutt said. "We worked hard on our passing game, because were expecting the blitz and movement from their defense. We have to execute our passing game and throw and catch. Were still mixing in new formations." Arkansas and Vanderbilt will face each other on Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
