The Jacksonville Jaguars finished off the first week of
training camp with a live scrimmage that took place in Alltel Stadium in
front of 14,604 fans this evening following a brief practice session in
the morning.
"We got to see a little football tonight. Obviously the fans
saw the importance that we`re placing on special teams. Every couple of
series we broke and did some special teams," said Del Rio. "First of
all, Brian Jones made a nice cut and scored a touchdown. Getting Matt
Jones out here making some plays, catching the ball right away, I know
that was exciting. Greg Jones continues to impress. He`s really having a
fine camp. He punctuated it with a nice touchdown plunge."
Del Rio has been pleased with the progress of his team
through the first week of training camp.
"Obviously, there are things this time of year, the first
weekend of camp, that must be corrected, a procedure penalty here and
there, a holding penalty negating big plays here and there. We will look
at that and go back and correct it. But all in all, I`m pleased with the
effort and the energy that was put forth. One week into it, I`m pleased
with the way the team is working," said Del Rio.
"This is the best we can play against and practice against
every day. We know we are getting better as a team, not just on offense,
not just on defense, but as a team. We are getting better as a whole.
It`s just a different attitude around here," said quarterback Byron
Leftwich.
Camp will continue on Saturday with a Mock Game inside
Alltel Stadium at 10:30 a.m. The Jaguars` coaching staff and players
will run through a practice session of game day procedures. Fans should
park in Lots C, D and J, and enter through Gates 1 and 4. There will not
be an autograph opportunity on Saturday.
