Three Razorbacks Earn Spots on SEC Coaches Preseason Team

UA Sports Information: FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas wide receiver Marcus Monk, offensive tackle Zac Tubbs and linebacker Pierre Brown have been named to the Southeastern Conference Coaches preseason All-SEC football teams it was announced on Wednesday. This marks the second year that SEC coaches have selected preseason All-SEC teams. Three teams were selected for offense, defense and special teams. League coaches also select post-season All-SEC squads. Monk and Tubbs were named to the All-SEC second-team offensive unit while Brown was selected for the third-team defensive squad. "Im pleased that Marcus, Zac and Pierre have been recognized for their accomplishments on the field," Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. "They have been a valuable part of our team in the past and I fully expect them to have another outstanding season. I think we have some additional players that could see their names on the All-SEC teams by the end of the year." Monk set a UA freshman record with 37 catches last season breaking the mark held by former Razorback and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Richard Smith. His 37 receptions also tied for the team lead. He racked up 569 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his first collegiate season. He is also listed as a preseason honorable mention All-America selection by Street and Smiths Annuals. Tubbs was the Hogs starting right tackle in the first five games of 2004 before suffering a season-ending injury in early October. Before his injury, he tallied 18 knockdown blocks and graded out at 89 percent or better in three out of five games. He underwent surgery to repair a left fibula fracture with associated ligament tears and missed the rest of the season. He is on target physically to be ready to go for preseason camp. Brown started 10 games last season at sam linebacker and is listed as the starter at that position again heading into the preseason. He ranked second on the team in tackles in 2004 with 60 stops. His average of 5.5 tackles per game ranked tied for 31st among all league defenders and 17th among SEC linebackers. He made five or more tackles in eight games including a career-high 12 tackles against Texas.
