Country singer Mindy McCready is fighting for her son in an Arkansas court.

McCready, 36, has spent the entire day in a Cleburne County courtroom, where a judge is hearing the custody dispute between McCready and her mother, Gayle Inge.

Cameras were not allowed inside the courtroom because the case it involves McCready's five-year-old son Zander.

The hearing started at nine o'clock this morning. and as of four o'clock this afternoon, a family member told us they've yet to call any witnesses.

Zander had been in the care of his grandmother because of McCready's public battle with substance abuse, but the singer brought him to Arkansas. She was found in Heber Springs December 2nd hiding in a closet with her son inside what was supposed to have been an unoccupied summer home.

Zander is currently in the custody of the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

The judge can decide whether he goes back to Florida with his grandmother, stays in an Arkansas foster home, or goes home with his mother.

KARK is told McCready is glad an Arkansas judge is hearing the case, because she feels she's getting a fairer shake than she wasn't getting in Florida.

Although Mindy thinks she might be getting a fair shake with the Arkansas court system, some people that I know did not get a fair break with that same system. I know this from personal experience and the court system DID NOT HELP AT ALL! All it did was take CASA's side and the DHS's side that I and my daughter lived in at the time. My daughter and I both had to go up against the Arkansas court system. At the time that I did, I was a Texas resident and the AR DHS took my kids but after a two and a half year struggle, I was more lucky than my daughter a few years ago (3 years ago to be exact). She did EVERYTHING that was personally asked of her but DHS did things to sabotage the purpose of reuniting her children with her. I say this in truth and not to falsely accuse because I know what happened to her from the time the kids were taken from her until they finally got her rights terminated which I feel WAS UNFAIR!
