Updated: January 7, 2009
Walmart`s being sued by three Massachusetts women with the support of several abortion rights groups for not stocking the morning after pill in their pharmacies. The suit seeks a court order compelling Arkansas` retail giant to put the so-called morning after pill on shelves in its Massachusetts store pharmacies. A new state law requires all hospitals to dispense the pills to rape victims. It also allows pharmacies to dispense the pill without a prescription but its not a requirement. A Wal-mart spokesman says the store will get clarification of the massachusetts` regulation and if it does direct the company to carry these products, Wal-mart will abide. The lawsuit seeks twenty-five dollars in damages for each woman plus attorneys`fees.
