Bill Signed To Help Protect Your Personal Information

Governor Mike Huckabee signed the Personal Information Protection Act Monday. The legislation requires businesses and state agencies to notify Arkansas residents if sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, driver`s license numbers or credit card information is stolen. The measure also allows the state attorney general to prosecute companies who fail to comply with the law. The legislation follows revelations that Georgia-based Choice-Point sold sensitive information to criminals. About 145,000 people were affected nationwide, including 696 Arkansans.
