This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of Little Rock Air Force Base. The base marked its anniversary with a celebration involving hundreds of people. It opened in 1955, about four years after the idea was first proposed. At the time, Arkansas was the only state in the union without an Air Force base. The base serves as a key spot for the training of pilots who fly the C-130 cargo plane.
