Updated: January 7, 2009
Approximately 520 soldiers from the Arkansas Army National Guards 39th Brigade returned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma on Sunday. They were welcomed by family and friends who have been eagerly awaiting their safe return. The homecoming reunions began at 4:30 a.m., with a welcome ceremony for 260 with the 1st Battalion, 153rd infantry. These soldiers hail from all over Arkansas, including Prescott, Arkadelphia, Mena, Sheridan, and Russellville. About 40 civic leaders from around the state were on hand, including Congressman John Boozman. This homecoming was just one in a number that have been happening since February in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, more families will get a chance to see their loved ones that have been serving overseas.
