Pulaski County deputies are searching for a man, who they say posed as an officer and pulled over a young woman. Investigators say it happened at Highway 365 and Slinker road Sunday night. A man reportedly used a flashing blue light to pull over a 17 year old girl.
The victim says the man was wearing a dark blue uniform with an oval badge and his car had a star shaped emblem with the words "Hot Springs" on the side. When the girl began asking questions, the suspect took off. Pulaski County Sheriff`s Department Spokesman John Rehrauer says this appears to be an isolated incident, but it raises the question about what to do to stay safe during a traffic stop. There`s nothing worse than seeing flashing blue lights in your rear view mirror. Before you make a move, make sure the lights are coming from an actual patrol car.
"If it is an unmarked car- right off the bat you should be suspicous and more cautious," says Rehrauer.
Law enforcement officials say you should turn on your blinker of flashers right away and pull over when it`s convenient. Your shouldn`t roll your window down until you see the officer`s name and badge. Take note of his uniform and appearance. Don`t hesitate to ask for identification. If the officer hesitates, ask to see a supervisor. Plus, you have the right to ask for Police back up if you feel unsafe. In the event he doesn`t comply with that request, honk your horn or try to drive off.
