Safety of Tasers Questioned

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Many of the police departments around central Arkansas are using Tasers to help subdue suspects when they`re trying to fight with police. A new report from the Defense Department released Friday says the Tasers might cause permanent heart damage. The Air Force tested the Tasers by zapping pigs repeatedly. Taser International, the company that makes the stun gun, says the study was incomplete. The company says the results of the study show the pigs physically exerted themselves, but did not have heart damage. Sherwood Police Department in Pulaski County just got the Tasers last month. They`ve already had to use the less than lethal weapon once in the past few weeks. The departments admits there are risks to using any weapon, including pepper spray and batons. Officers say they`re glad to have the new weapons and will continue using them.
