Session Update

Updated: January 7, 2009
The 85th General Assembly`s had 15 days worth of meetings at the capitol and some outside the hallways there aren`t sure much has been going on. Actually representatives have filed 332 bills, senators 233. Twenty-seven bills have already been signed into law, but most are just regular agency appropriations. Senator Kim Hendren of Gravette says the pacing of this session is fine and that the breaks lawmakers have taken are helpful because it keeps them in touch with constituent needs. A survey done in by a member of the governor`s staff shows that despite perceptions, this general assembly has made about the same end-of-january progress as the 84th general assembly.
