Searcy Fire Department Fire

Updated: January 7, 2009
Firefighters get the calls to save other peoples homes and businesses everyday, but Thursday night in Searcy they`re turning their attention and hoses on their own building...the Searcy fire department headquarters. Response times are generally measured in minutes but this time is was only seconds...the building itself tells the story. The building is also shared by two other offices the Muncipal Judge and of course the fire department. Within a matter of minutes both offices were hit by flames. When the fire broke out just after 6 Thursday night winds were gusting which made containing the fire difficult. The building`s age didn`t help either. It`s been around since the 1930`s and the city had been looking for ways to replace it. (Lt. Tim Webb/SEARCY POLICE DEPARTMENT) "there were some plans in the future to do an expansion and the city was looking to do a replacement for this building but there wasn`t anything for the present." A lot of smoke was seen by a lot of people. There is a joint service agreement...firefighters from other cities to help out in case anything happens.
