Save your Receipts-New Deductions need proof

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A new federal deduction allows you to claim the amount you`ve paid in state and local sales tax. If you make the claim, you cannot claim the amount you`ve paid in state income tax. Tax preparers warn you`ll also need to have proof of the amount in case of an audit. If you don`t have receipts, the IRS has provided a table with an estimate. Generally the estimate is lower than what most Arkansans paid in state income tax.
