One in Seven Drivers Uninsured

By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: September 12, 2011
One in seven drivers in America has no auto insurance.

An insurance industry group says that number goes up along with the nation's unemployment rate, which is now above nine-percent.

The Insurance Research Council also says drivers who have insurance pay almost eleven-billion dollars a year to protect themselves against drivers who do not.

Massachusetts has the lowest percentage of uninsured drivers, four-percent, while in Mississippi 28-percent of drivers have no insurance.
