El Dorado Plant had past problems

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The big fire at the Teris chemical plant in El Dorado Sunday was not the first time the site has been the source of trouble. The fire and explosion caused about one-fourth of the people in El Dorado to be evacuated. It shut down businesses, and even caused many church services to be canceled. The state`s Department of Environmental Quality says a chemical spill was reported at the plant just last January, and a fire in October 2002. Before that, when the facility was owned by another company, a long list of other violations -- including hazardous chemical spills -- is listed in the plant`s history. A 1994 explosion hurt three workers there.
