Talented But Tormented: Dr. Jonathan Drummond Webb Lost To Depression

Updated: January 7, 2009
The people who worked with Doctor Jonathan Drummond Webb say he had not only the hands of a surgeon, but also the heart of a child. Drummond-Webb, a world-renowned surgeon who operated on the tiniest and most fragile hearts at Arkansas Children`s Hospital, made international headlines just last week. His patient, Cabot`s Travis Marcus, left the hospital just two days after Christmas with a new heart beating in his chest, thanks to the first successful use of a miniature heart pump. Friends and family say they are shocked by Drummond-Webb`s suicide but admit he had struggled with bouts of depression. A police report shows he had tried to kill himself in September.
