Pine Bluff Police won`t be able to hire the 20 officers it needs to run at capacity. The department will get $8.5 million to operate during the 2005 fiscal year. That`s down $1.5 million from its normal operating budget. "I feel like we`re going backward at a time when we need to increase patrols and get the crime rate down and get things back in perspective," says Chief Deputy Ivan Whitfield. Some of the departments` 137 officers will be moved to foot patrol. The City`s overall budget for 2005 is $31.5 million budget for Pine Bluff.
