U of A Gets $5 million Grant

The University of Arkanssa says it will use a
five million dollar grant to help close an information gap
between rice farmers and scientists who research the crop.
University officials say that as technology advances, it has
gotten harder for farmers to stay abreast of developments in the
laboratory.
The four-year grant will be used to map rice DNA and use the
information to improve rice yields and fight rice disease.
Researchers will study rice genomics, or ways to produce a more
sturdy rice seed for farmers. Officials say the work that emerges
from the gran will help traditional breeders.
