Company Moving Arkansas Work To China

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A company that makes precision magnetic materials at a plant in western Arkansas says it will move the work to China by June, bringing an anticipated 160 layoffs. Magnetics, a division of Pittsburgh-based Spang and Company, opened its plant at Booneville in 1984. Its precision materials are used by the electronics industry in communications equipment and for switching power supplies. City officials say the facility will likely keep some workers on, but not at the current scale. Booneville is close to Fort Smith and officials say many workers may be able to find work there if they can`t work in Booneville.
