Former Arkansas congressman Asa Hutchinson
says he is looking at any number of options for the future now that
he has been passed over for the top spot at the Department of
Homeland Security. Hutchinson, an undersecretary in the department,
says he may run for Arkansas governor in 2006.
Hutchinson says he will wait until January before making any
decisions about his future. He says he wants to first consult with
the White House, the new homeland security leader and Arkansas
friends.
Hutchinson moved to the Homeland Security department in January
2003 after serving nearly two years as director of the federal Drug
Enforcement Administration, a job he left Congress to accept.
If Hutchinson decides to run for governor, he likely would face
Lieutenant Governor Win Rockefeller in a high-profile Republican
primary. Rockefeller says Hutchinson`s plans will have no bearing
on his own decision whether to run.
