Arkansas shoppers are choosing to use cash rather than credit as they hit the stores this Christmas season.
Many say they`re tired of being saddled with deal at the start of the new year so they`ve planned ahead.
"We started saving at the beginning of the year," said Susan Lively, a shopper at Target in North Little Rock.
Lively purchased a Game Cube and a GameBoy -- all with cash.
American families will spend about $900.00 this holiday. But those items could cost more if credit cards are used.
"If you`ve bought $500 worth of goods, by the time you`re done paying it off, you spent $1500 buying those goods," said Sue Pearson, a credit counselor in North Little Rock.
To avoid getting into debt, experts recommend either using a debit card or cash to purchase your holiday gifts.
