Southwest Little Rock residents aren`t pleased to have a new nightclub in their neighborhood.
Owners have transformed the old Harvest Food building on Geyers Springs into the Venus Beach Entertainment Center. The building sits right next to a church.
City leaders fear the club could bring a criminal element to the community at a time when crime in on the decline.
"We just don`t think that a nightclub plopped down in a neighborhood in transition is a good thing," said Joan Adcock, a city director.
Public records show the building is owned by Curly Womack, 30, of Little Rock. Little Rock police say Womack has a lengthly criminal record which includes theft of property, theft by deception and failure to appear.
There is currently an active warrant for his arrest, police said.
Alcoholic Beverage Control already denied Venus a temporary beer permit. Officials are currently reviewing another liquor license.
