Jury Selection Begins In Fatal Nursing Home Beating

Jury selection got started today in the trial of a woman accused of the fatal beating of a nursing home patient. The trial is being held in El Dorado (duh-RAY-doe). Gayla Ann Wilson is accused of beating 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan with brass knuckles on July 30th, 2003 at the Dallas County Nursing Home in Fordyce. Ryan died at a Pine Bluff hospital two weeks later. An 18-year-old nurse`s aide, Shermike Rainey, has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in Ryan`s death. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison in August. Rainey has agreed to testify against the 44-year-old Wilson, who is charged with capital murder. Prosecutors have said they are seeking the death penalty against Wilson.
