Senate Confirms Nomination Of Northwest Arkansas Attorney

The US Senate has confirmed the nomination of Benton County Prosecutor Bob Balfe to the job of US. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. The Senate confirmed President Bush`s nominee Saturday during a long weekend session that focused on federal spending. Balfe was nominated by the president June First. William Cromwell became Acting US Attorney for the Western District after Tom Gean stepped down earlier this year to work for Wal-Mart. Balfe said that the timing of his departure from the county prosecutor`s office has not been worked out yet. The main office for the Western District is in Fort Smith, but Balfe said he will continue to live in the Benton County area. The other US Attorney`s Office in Arkansas is in Little Rock, handling legal issues for the Eastern District.
