Dickey Is Reappointed To Supreme Court

Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Huckabee has named Betty Dickey to serve as a justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court for the next two years. Dickey will fill out the term of Justice Jim Hannah of Searcy, who was elected to the chief justice position earlier this year. Dickey has served since the first of the year as chief justice but she couldn`t run for a full term. She became the first woman in the state`s history to serve as chief justice when the governor appointed her to the position last December. With that appointment, she replaced W-H "Dub" Arnold, who resigned before his term was up to return to private practice. Dickey was the Republican nominee for attorney general in 1998, and was Huckabee`s chief legal counsel before he appointed her to the bench last year.
