Court Affirms Mother`s Conviction For Throwing Child Off Mountain

The state Appeals Court has ruled that a Russellville woman didn`t absolve herself of an attempted murder charge by telling police where to find the 18 month old son she threw off a Mount Nebo overlook. The state Court of Appeals rejected Lisa Ann Gilbert`s appeal Wednesday. Gilbert also argued that incriminating statements she made to police should not have been allowed as evidence at her trial. The judges turned away her arguments. Gilbert was 21 when a Yell County jury convicted her last year. She originally was charged with attempted capital murder, accused of throwing Sasha "Alex" Webster, down the 35-foot embankment on March sixth, 2002. The baby suffered only minor cuts from briars that had cushioned his fall. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison on the attempted first-degree murder conviction and for filing a false police report.
