Former president Bill Clinton has gotten a look at two new exhibits at the Arkansas Arts Center. Clinton showed up this evening for a reception at the arts center, which has mounted exhibits of art that has hung in the White House, and photographs of presidents. After a tour of the exhibits and a reception, Clinton, his wife and daughter Chelsea greeted a crowd of more than a thousand people. Those in the crowd ranged from childhood friends and former colleagues in public service to Democratic Party luminaries Howard Dean, David Pryor and Jesse Jackson. Clinton thanked builders of his presidential library. He said that, in the library, he had tried to tell the story not just of his eight years in the White House, but how America moved into a whole new century. He said that new century held new dangers like terror, but also new opportunities through trade and shared values. Clinton said the library was also an attempt to get people to believe in each other again, and in the country.
