US Senator Blanche Lincoln easily won
re-election to a second term while Arkansans cast ballots in a
presidential race that was too close to call in today`s general
election.
The AP based Lincoln`s win on a statistical analysis of the
vote from voter interviews conducted for the by Edison Media
Research and Mitofsky International.
Lincoln plugged along with her six million dollar
re-election campaign against Republican Jim Holt, a state senator
from Springdale who ran with a shoestring budget of less than 100
thousand dollars at last count.

Three incumbent congressmen also were up for re-election in the
general election and three proposed constitutional amendments were
on the ballot, including one to define marriage as only between a
man and a woman.
After blazing a trail to Arkansas in his first race for the
nation`s highest office, President Bush never visited the state
after May in a re-election bid that concentrated on key
battleground states elsewhere.
Surrogates also carried much of Democrat John Kerry`s campaign
here, although former President Clinton flew in Sunday and threw
thousands to a stirring get out the vote rally for Kerry and other
Democrats.
