House Candidate Has Record For Exposing Himself To Children

Updated: January 7, 2009
Republican House candidate Alan Fortney of Conway is acknowledging that he has been arrested three times for exposing himself to children. The 42 year old Fortney says the first arrest was in his late teens when he was a college student in Fort Smith. He says the second time was in Fort Smith in 1988; and the third arrest was when he was working in Georgia. Fortney says he made mistakes but that the charges were misdemeanors and that he didn`t know the victims were children. Fortney says he will stay in the race. Democratic Representative Betty Pickett, the incumbent, says she was taken aback by news of Fortney`s record. Pickett, a Democrat, says she tries to run a positive campaign and prefers not to comment on her opponent`s arrests.
