UA employees will pay more for medical care

Starting in January, employees of the
University of Arkansas System will see increases in copayments for doctor visits and prescriptions. The changes were made with hopes of saving the system about 15 million dollars to keep the health insurance plans out of debt.
The new plan was approved in a closed meeting on Monday and has the University of Arkansas System pay a ten percent increase in premiums for employees` health insurance. The plan that administrators approved increases copays from five to 20 dollars for primary care doctor visits and increases visits to specialists from ten to 35 dollars. Prescription copayments will also rise. Overnight stays at hospitals or outpatients surgeries will now cost an added 500 dollar deductible under the new plan.
