A Perry County jail inmate is on the run tonight -- after taking off in a county vehicle Monday morning.
The sheriff`s department resumed their search for 41 year old Marvin Allen Monday night after hearing he may have kicked in a resident`s door.
Allen was a trustee of the jail, out on work release and assigned to the road crew.
Around 8:30 Monday morning, a state trooper noticed the vehicle speeding and checked the license plate.
That`s when authorities found that the car belonged to a road crew employee.
The trooper eventually pulled the car over. Allen jumped out of it and ran into the woods.
Several agencies spent all day searching with dogs and the state police helicopter.
Allen was being held on misdemeanor charges.
The Perry County Sheriff says he expects warrants could be issued in the morning for new charges including an escape charge, fleeing an officer and felony theft of property.
"We don`t believe this subject`s going to be dangerous. We`re urging all of our local citizens to lock their cars and take the keys from them and report anything suspicious," said Sheriff Ray Byrd.
Byrd says he expects it will be difficult to resume their search tomorrow, because the department does not have the manpower to continue.
However, they will continue investigating to track him down.
