Summit Mall plans are now history

The zoning dispute that killed the plans for the largest mall in the state in west Little Rock ended unceremoniously Thursday. The Little Rock Planning Commission changed the zoning for the 100-acre property at Shackleford and I-430 that would have been the Summit Mall. Lawyers for landowners in the area and an Indianapolis developer wrangled in court over the zoning for the mall for 15 years until the developer gave up on the project in February. With the zoning change, any future development will have to be a mixed use, commercial and office space. At least 25 percent of any building space must be for offices and not commercial use. Up to 10 acres will still be available for hotel or convention space.
