A fifth grader at Plainview-Rover
Elementary School has come up with the winning name for a Southern Red Oak tree that will be planted at an industrial site that has been cleaned up for use by a new company.
Heather Treadwell came up with the name Futurus, a Latin word meaning future. The contest was sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
Heather and US Senator Blanche Lincoln will assist in the tree planting ceremony October 20th to dedicate the Plainview Steel Company building. The company will begin operating in January and employ about 25 people.
State environmental officials say the property once was used by Mountain Pine Pressure Treating company which left about 19 acres of contaminated land when it abandoned the property.
