Wal-Mart removes crane games

Updated: January 7, 2009
Those curious and frustrating games where you pay a quarter and try to use a toy crane to capture a stuffed animal locked in a glass box are no longer at Mississippi Wal-Mart stores. The company took out the crane games from its Mississippi stores pending an attorney general`s opinion on whether they are legal. The games can be found primarily in supermarkets and large chain stores, such as Wal-Mart. Karen Burk, a spokeswoman from Wal-Mart`s headquarters in Bentonville, says the machines were removed until response from the attorney general`s office. The Mississippi Supreme Court has held that amusement machines that dispense something of value upon the insertion of a coin are illegal slot machines.
