Judge to decide if homosexuals can foster children

Updated: January 7, 2009
Right now the application for foster parents in Arkansas states any household with a homosexual adult will not be considered. The ACLU is challenging that qualification before Circuit Judge Timothy Fox. Testimony began in March, but recessed until now because the state`s expert witness was killed in a car accident before he took the stand. Today Dr. George Rekers testified for the state. Rekers said a homosexual household could cause embarrassment for a child. Rekers also said studies show homosexuals have more partners than heterosexuals. According to Rekers, that could cause additional stress for a child if he or she became attached to the caregivers partner. The ACLU contends it should be looked at on a case by case basis. Attorneys also suggested Dr. Rekers has a religious bias.
