Plan underway to get prescription drugs to uninsured Arkansans

A proposal to offer unused prescription drugs from nursing homes to uninsured Arkansans through free clinics is being readied for next year`s General Assembly. A legislative committee is endorsing the draft bill by Representatives Jodie Mahony of El Dorado and Barbara Horn of Foreman. The measure would authorize the state Pharmacy Board to develop rules for the system in conjunction with the state Department of Human Services and state Health Department. Senator Percy Malone of Arkadelphia says he`s for such a system if it can provide medicine for poor Arkansans that is as safe as that available for he and others who can afford to pay for it. The draft measure now goes to the legislative Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committees for further development.
