Fatal Bus Accident No Surprise To School Bus Drivers

Tuesday`s fatal bus accident in Benton came as no surprise to school bus drivers and parents. "I`ve seen quite a few cards go through these stop signs," said Ray Hand, a bus drivers with the Pulaski County Special School District. Hand has been driving a school bus for 10 years and says drivers often bypass him -at high rates of speed- when he comes to a complete stop. "It absolutely makes me mad because they`re not supposed to do that. It`s very dangerous to kids," he said. On Tuesday, Tiffany Nix, 20, of Benton hit and killed a 9-year old boy after he came off a school bus, police said. Police say Nix told them she didn`t know the bus had come to a complete stop. Saline County District Attorney Robert Herzfeld plans to file charges against Nix later in the week. If convicted, Nix could spend a year in jail and be fined $1,000.
