Thousands Participate In Pro-Marriage Rally Sunday

More than 35 churches participated in a pro-marriage rally at Jonesboro on Sunday. The event drew thousands of people to the Convocation Center arena at the Arkansas State University campus. The rally was organized to voice support for a proposed constitutional amendment that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. The intent is to ensure that same-sex marriage is forever outlawed in Arkansas. Across the street from the arena, protesters gave a dissenting view. Daniel Duncan is the president of the Gay Straight Alliance at Arkansas State University. He says that other restrictions on marriage have been lifted -- such as bans on interracial marriage and laws that made divorce illegal. He says same-sex marriage should also be allowed. The proposed amendment is on the November second general election ballot.
